Abstrak	The present article aims to provide a distinct approach of the concept of national security in Romania, since the term has been used with an increasing frequency after the communist regime was abolished in December 1989. From the structural point of view, the study follows the classic pattern of reviewing the previous research reports within the field, in order to analyze the available data corpus and establish useful connections in anticipating the new security challenges.Thus, our main purpose is to contribute to the understanding of the national security s evolution in our country, relying on both the development of intelligence and security culture and on the attempt of predicting the future risks and threats. Using the scenario method as the main research methodology, the current paper emphasizes the fundamental transformations that have taken place within the Romanian intelligence, the improvement of the national defense strategies, the high level of adaptability and the recently adopted transparency policy, in order to establish three possible scenarios.Moreover, it outlines the main improvements that have occurred during the last 30 years, in terms of the Romanian diplomatic relations and geopolitical status, considering its integration into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, in 2004 and European Union, in 2007. Consequently, the reader would be able to understand the main concepts associated to the national security, intelligence and security culture, while learning which are the main security risks and threats, as well as the legal framework in force and national defense strategies. In other words, one would comprehend the fact that, nowadays, in order to guarantee a stable environment from the economic, political and social point of view, the Romanian Intelligence Service founds its activity on protecting the democratic values, respecting human rights and ensuring the rule of law, each of us being able to support its activity towards a common goal: national security.
